While staying in Eskdale in the beautiful Lake District National Park I took the dog for walk up Christ Cliff most days. In the early morning light the rowan tree, surrounded by granite boulders, was still in the shade of the surrounding hills while Hard Knott at the top of the Hardknott Pass could be seen in full sunlight.
Although it was only early autumn the tree is bereft of leaves due to the high winds that surge through Eskdale.
