Bullock, Cheadle THX 563S

Another DMS back in its natural state was 2563, which had arrived at Bullocks in August 1991, and initially wore a stripey white-based scheme, which was certainly different ! This probably suited it better though.

It lasted through to 1997, latterly as JIL 8208, and by this time it had been re-fitted with a Gardner engine, and lost its distinctive 'B20' rear end.

BULLOCK'S OF CHEADLE THX563S

THX563S was a Leyland Fleetline FE30ALR / Park Royal H44/27Dnew as London Transport DM2563 in March 1978. It was acquired by Bullocks of Cheadle in August 1991, and re-registered as JIL8208 in July 1995. It ran for a further two years until 1997, and is shown in "Fag Packet" livery.

The company was founded in 1928 by Ralph Bullock, initially as a haulage firm, with milk deliveries being the early focus. By the mid-1930s, the fleet included trucks and proper coaches, but the trucks were nationalised under the Transport Act 1947 by the Clement Attlee government, leaving only the coaches. The firm remained small with around 20 vehicles, until 1986, when deregulation of the bus market allowed Bullocks to diversify. The fleet grew to around 75-80 vehicles in total with Bullocks acquiring many bus routes, and introducing new ones, including route 42 from Stockport to Manchester via Wilmslow Road. Over the years, the number of services declined having been lost to other operators. By 2008, it was operating seven routes and several school services, all except one of the commercial routes were sold off, most to Stagecoach Manchester and a couple to Arriva North West.
