Située au bord de l'Adriatique entre Ravenne et Rimini, Cesenatico est le port antique de Césène (en italien Cesena)
Cesenatico est un port-canal construit, à la demande de César Borgia, en 1502 d'après les plans originaux de Léonard de Vinci (plan qui se trouve à la Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris).
La structure du port-canal ainsi réalisé a l'avantage d'échapper à l'ensablement dont sont victimes la majorité des ports italiens.
Le tympan.
Le tympan est divisée en trois lancettes trilobées. Dans la lancette centrale se tient la Vierge à l'Enfant, couronnée et nimbée, dans une mandorle de roses, entourée de quatre anges thuriféraires. Ses pieds sont posés sur une base surmontant un pilier hexagonal, alors que deux anges présentent un phylactère portant les mots AVE MARIA,
Les commanditaires de la chapelle sont figurés dans la posture de donateurs dans les lancettes latérales : Charles VIII avec le blason aux armes de France, et Anne de Bretagne avec un blason à six mouchetures d' hermines . Tous les deux devant une tenture aux motifs de fleurs de lis et d'hermines.
. DESCRIPTION DU LINTEAU.
Le linteau de 3,20 m de long et 0,60 m de haut est divisé en deux scènes de taille asymétrique, une "chasse de saint Hubert" à droite occupant les deux-tiers de la longueur, et une "traversée du gué par saint Christophe" à gauche occupant le tiers restant. En transition entre les deux, un monticule faisant office de décor de montagne sert d'élément commun aux deux scènes.
La chapelle a été construite en 1491-1493, mais son décor sculpté a été réalisé entre 1495 et 1496.
en 2021, une restauration dans les règles de l'art a été entreprise Après un peu plus de 2 années et demie de travaux qui auront mobilisé des artisans issus d’une dizaine de corps de métiers d’art, la chapelle Saint Hubert s’est à nouveau pleinement dévoilée aux visiteurs du château royal d’Amboise au printemps 2024.
