An abstract and dynamic capture of ocean waves in motion, blending deep blues with splashes of white foam. The blurred textures and expressive movement evoke the untamed power of the sea, turning water into a canvas of energy and emotion.

This is an image from a recent set of studio images I created for a still life theme of "Still life + liquid = Impact". I wanted to show that the addition of liquid to every day still life objects can be made more interest and have greater visual impact if liquid is added.
The Bananas were actually hanging downwards and water was thrown at them using a small plastic cup and various exposures captured using strobe lighting. A selection of the best shaped splashes were then composited together in Photoshop. The hand shaped splash seems to be supporting the bananas which influenced my decision to rotate the image on its side and create an almost gravity free feeling. I'm also a fan of the film 'The Abyss' and the CGI water effects used.
Mission 24: Lift - Just like the morning fog lifting, the steam lifts from my coffee cup.
So, for this Mission, I decided to get a little metaphorical!! After all, I did just get finished with English class before I shot this cup of coffee (Disclaimer: No perfectly good cups of coffee were harmed in the production of this photograph.)
I thought about how cool it would be to get a shot of the frost sublimating off of my car this morning (the ice lifting, vapor lifting, etc..), but I didn't have enough time to photograph that and get my sister to school. So, I started thinking of how a picture of fog or dew lifting in the morning would have essentially the same effect. However, there was frost (not dew) and no fog this morning. So, then I decided that coffee, to many people, is a part of their morning routine, and therefore could be symbolic (metaphorical) of the morning...and, of course, coffee is hot, producing steam. AND THUS, I HAD MY FOG!!!!!
And, now, for the shameless plug: If you're ever in Wilmington, the best coffee is at Jester's Cafe at 607 Castle Street, in downtown. The coffee's great, the menu is great, all the food is very fresh, and the staff is awesome!!! The staff and customers (well, us regulars, at least) truly feel like a family. It's just a great place!! (Go to Port City Java if you must...but I'm stickin' with the Jester!)
