No Surprise

Just what you'd expect when the Melaleucas are in flower. The Rainbow Lorikeets will be at the forefront of the assault on these popular sources of nectar.

Fly Away Home

Ladybirds/Ladybugs are handy to come across if your garden has aphids. This is a Variable Ladybird Beetle.
The "variable" component of the name concerns the eight wing-cover spots. Each bug has its own individual pattern of these spots.

One possible reason for the presence of bean-eaters such as the Brown Bean Bug, recently posted.
Just another weed to get used to! Also known as Cow Pea, Pea Bean and Wild Bushbean.

Rainbow Lorikeets and one Friar Bird are part of a much larger flock of like-minded nectar feeders, wheeling from tree to tree, intent on a sweet hit from the paper-barks.

Don't Get No Respect!

As soon as I was able to identify this guy as a Pod-Sucking Bug, I was almost too ashamed to pass this knowledge on.

Some Kinda Bee

I know for sure it is an Australian native, non-stinging, individual. Very similar to resin bees I have photographed before. It even shows some characteristics of the well-known Blue-banded Bee, without the fluorescent stripes.

Hello, Dark Wings, My Old Friend

With apologies to Simon and Garfunkel - I really did feel that I was talking once more to an old mate. The Common Crow has been in my viewfinder from the Kimberley in the far North to Victoria and many bush tracks in between.

Female Rufous Whistler (With Breakfast)

Thought I'd check Sandy Camp for cyclone damage this morning. Thankfully, it seemed to fare quite well. This little lady was competing with some Superb Fairy-wrens for grubs or caterpillars from the paper-barks.

Slightly different angle of this Dusky Moorhen with its downy chick. The little 'un is a bit difficult to recognise.
