A budgie, or parakeet, seemed to be nature's own April Fool's joke when it unexpectedly appeared in a Swedish forest on April 1st while I was photographing a woodpecker.
The budgie, also known as the common parakeet, shell parakeet or budgerigar, is a small, long-tailed, seed-eating parrot native to Australia. This one must have escaped from someone's home nearby.

One of my favorite species of birds—jackdaw—on a stroll at Skarpnäck sporting grounds. March 2025. I find jackdaws both amusing to watch and very social. They are amazingly skilled aerobatics, intelligent, curious and has the ability to do things for pleasure.
The first starling I've seen this year! Skarpnäck in March 2025. This one still has most of its winter plumage—the breeding plumage is glossy black with a metallic sheen and speckled with white.
