Distributed across the wall installation, but also further off

While browsing the host venue, the Monroe Community Church, it was surprising at first to discover a few of the face molds elsewhere in the lobby space, at a distance from this main wall for the installation of "Community," as Craig Paul Nowak named his artwork. But on second thought, the scattering and uneven concentration of lives-faces-personalities shown here does represent the way that some people are closer or more distant from others.

Entitled 'community' of many faces, names, lives, roots, dreams by anthroview

Entitled 'community' of many faces, names, lives, roots, dreams

The full statement by the artist at www.artprize.org/entries#56117 gives background to the installation. But even without reading his words, looking closely at one or more faces, up high, lower down, or at one's own eye-level, it is impossible to sense the humanity of the person's likeness frozen like a physical snapshot. Compared to a fraction of a second to record a 2D representation on film or digital sensor, though, the process of making a true likeness with the living person's face as the mold takes a lot longer and is a cooperative project, each encounter a little different from the last.
