NO ALIBI if you're not out on the river on the warmest day of this year (32°C or 90°F). Princess 388 ALIBI sailing upstream back to Arkelstad. On Monday 12 August 2024 a lot of people remained at Boven Merwede, the largest branch of Rhine, even after the sunset. Here exactly 15 minutes until the middle of the sun aligns with the ideal horizon, the official moment of the (astronomical) sunset.

THE WARMEST DAY of this year (32°C or 90°F) even though it was a Monday, invited on 12 August 2024 more people than usual to Boven Merwede. When de temperature crosses 30°C bar, the water acquires a special meaning. This was 15 minutes before the sunset.

THE WARMEST DAY of this year (32°C or 90°F) produced 12 August some extra fun traffic on Boven Merwede. It was very lively even after the sunset! These two daredevils passed the big stony groyne I was standing on by just a few meters and filled the viewfinder of my small camera. De Avelingen nature resort.

THE WARMEST DAY of this year (32°C or 90°F) even though it was a Monday, produced 12 August some extra fun traffic on the river. It remained very lively even after the sunset! Here we have a nifty pretty coxwain in the service of a high ranking Naval officer occupying the foredeck. He's saluting the photographer who is perched on the groyne's marking pole. This was 16 minutes before the sunset.

Photography is wonder. Without this capture I would never have paid attention to or even have seen in the first place: how pretty this young woman was, how special her traditional clothing was (especially in this casual moment) and how dearly sweet her young admiral was. Photography helps me – not a newcomer to this world – to discover so many wonderful details around me that I otherwise would have missed. I would have never known that a little admiral saluted me so cool without this capture.
