The grounds of Parliament Building at Stormont are a popular place for the burghers of East Belfast to go for a stroll, even on a grim midwinter night.

Parliament Buildings, often referred to as Stormont, because of its location in the Stormont Estate area of Belfast, is the seat of the Northern Ireland Assembly, the devolved legislature for Northern Ireland. The purpose-built building, designed by Arnold Thornely, and constructed by Stewart & Partners, was opened by Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII), in 1932.

To camouflage this originally brilliant white Portland stone building during World War II, its Portland stone was painted with supposedly removable "paint" made of bitumen and cow manure. However, after the war, removing the paint proved an enormous difficulty, with the paint having scarred the stonework. It took seven years to remove the "paint", and the exterior façade has never regained its original white colour.

Mediterranean, winter by y-melnikov

It was a January morning in the Mediterranean. We were walking the dog in the mountains, where there was total fog and a fine drizzle of rain. At some point, the wind blew and the sun appeared through the haze. The rain drops on the branches lit up with light, my wife's umbrella became a relief, and shadows appeared on the road. At that moment, I took a picture.
After a minute, everything disappeared.
