Snakin' Down to Yorkeys (2024)

Aerial view of a pair of Chinese-built “Grey Ghosts” (CSR021-CSR019) rolling downgrade towards Yorkeys Crossing with SCT's 1793m long 7PG1 service on Monday July 29, 2024. The train that was once nick-named “The Great White” has lost its sparkle and is now mostly a mobile graffiti gallery.

The Almost Great White at Sunrise (2023)

SCT's 7PG1 with SCT006-CSR021 and 43 platforms glows in the morning desert sun as it rolls through the spectacular Wirrappa landscape on Sept 4, 2023. The train is crossing over the rebuilt right of way badly damaged by severe storms and flooding. The train was once known as "The Great White" due to its predominantly white locomotives and rolling stock. These days, it's almost "The Great Grey" with the effects of a new grey colour scheme plus the ravages of graffiti and desert dust.

Ground level view

I posted a drone pic of the same train at this location a couple of weeks ago, this is the conventional ground level view. Hauled by CSR022/024, SCT Logistics service 7PG1 from Perth in Western Australia to Parkes in New South Wales on 24 April 2023. A year ago this area had been the scene of a serious washaway that closed the transcontinental rail line for over three weeks.
