RUFOUS-TAILED HUMMINGBIRD Amazilia tzacatl. This Rufous-tailed Hummingbird has its tail feathers spread. It has been preening its feathers at 7:50 AM on the beautiful sunny morning of January 26, 2016 in Mindo in northwestern Ecuador.

The Rufous-tailed Hummingbird is a member of the family Trochilidae and is found from Mexico south through Central America to Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador.

RUFOUS-TAILED HUMMINGBIRD Amazilia tzacatl. This Rufous-tailed Hummingbird is drinking nectar from banana flowers along the Vía Cunuco, about two miles north of Mindo, in northwestern Ecuador at 9:26 AM on November 28, 2020.

The Rufous-tailed Hummingbird belongs to the family Trochilidae. It is a very successful and widespread hummingbird species, being found from Mexico south through Central America to Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador.

This Rufous-tailed Hummingbird is hovering at yellow Agave flowers, Agave americana, on which it is feeding at the Bosque Protector Jerusalem a little to the north of Guayllabamba in northern Ecuador at 9:49 AM on January 29, 2020. The Agave is also known by the common names of Century Plant and Maguey.

The Rufous-tailed Hummingbird belongs to the family Trochilidae. It is a very successful and widespread hummingbird species, being found from Mexico south through Central America to Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador.

RUFOUS-TAILED HUMMINGBIRD Amazilia tzacatl. A Rufous-tailed Hummingbird is about to begin drinking nectar from the cup-like flowers of the leguminous tree Erythrina megistophylla Diels, family Fabaceae, along the Vía Cunuco, about two miles north of Mindo, in northwestern Ecuador at 9:34 AM on November 4, 2017.

The plant Erythrina megistophylla is Endemic to Ecuador. It has flowers adapted to pollination by passerine (perching) birds. We have watched a variety of passerine birds in addition to a number of hummingbird species drinking nectar from these flowers .

The Rufous-tailed Hummingbird belongs to the family Trochilidae. It is a very successful and widespread hummingbird species, being found from Mexico south through Central America to Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador.
