This female Crimson-mantled Woodpecker was observed in a dead tree with Spanish Moss Tillandsia usneoides in the high altitude tropical dry forest at the Bosque Protector Jerusalem a little to the north of Guayllabamba in northern Ecuador at 7:58 AM on December 19, 2019.

The Crimson-mantled Woodpecker is a member the family Picidae and is found in the Andes of western Venezuela and in Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, and Bolivia.

The scientific name formerly assigned to the Crimson-mantled Woodpecker was Piculus rivolii.

The Golden Grosbeak belongs to the family Cardinalidae (Cardinals and Allies) and lives in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Perú. Pheucticus chrysogaster was earlier known by the common names Golden-bellied Grosbeak and Southern Yellow Grosbeak. Some workers consider it to be conspecific with the Yellow Grosbeak P. chrysopeplus of Guatemala and Mexico.

Three male Golden-rumped Euphonias are seen in a stand of flowering Cabuya Furcraea andina (family Asparagaceae; subfamily Agavoideae) in the high tropical dry forest at the Bosque Protector Jerusalem a little to the north of Guayllabamba in northern Ecuador at 10:53 AM on January 23, 2019. Furcraea andina is in the same subfamily Agavoideae as the Agave or Century Plant.

The Golden-rumped Euphonia belongs to the family Fringillidae and lives in Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador south to northern Argentina, Paraguay and southeastern Brazil. It also lives in Trinidad and the Guianas.

This Rufous-tailed Hummingbird is hovering at yellow Agave flowers, Agave americana, on which it is feeding at the Bosque Protector Jerusalem a little to the north of Guayllabamba in northern Ecuador at 9:49 AM on January 29, 2020. The Agave is also known by the common names of Century Plant and Maguey.

The Rufous-tailed Hummingbird belongs to the family Trochilidae. It is a very successful and widespread hummingbird species, being found from Mexico south through Central America to Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador.

The Scrub Tanager belongs to the family Thraupidae and is resident in western Colombia and northwestern Ecuador. The Scrub Tanager was formerly placed in the genus Tangara and bore the scientific name Tangara vitriolina.
