Possibly the most interesting SYTM-allocated bus of the day was one that was furthest away from the museum. Standing out in bright yellow and blue, this is another preserved example from that weird municipal Chesterfield Transport - by the looks of things, it seems they operated more coaches than buses on regular town services! This Tiger, though, wasn't actually new to them - likely an acquisition made after deregulation, this was actually new as an express coach to Bishops Stortford independent Biss Bros as ANK 320X, and after having once been preserved in the livery of Caring Coaches under RHE 969X, now represents the East Midland independent that was among the first to go to Stagecoach in the late eighties.
A coach that has certainly taken on many identities, preserved Chesterfield Transport 3, a 1982 Plaxton Supreme VI bodied Leyland Tiger new to Biss Bros of Bishops Stortford as their ANK 320X, recently preserved in the livery of Caring Coaches as RHE 969X, is seen stood quite far outside the South Yorkshire Transport Museum
This smart Tiger has since been restored in Chesterfield Transport livery, after being acquired by the Chesterfield 123 Group, and has received one of it's previous registration numbers in 283URB, in fact, I'm unsure if it was at the beginning of preservation or was in preservation when seen here at the Peak Park Bus Gathering, Peak Rail, Rowsley South, on 17/06/2012. New to Biss Bros., Bishops Stortford, in 02/1982, registered ANK320X, it later served with Chesterfield Transport, numbered 3 and re-registered 283URB. Later re-registered RHE969X, it later passed to Chesterfield based Caring Coaches, who were bought out by Coopers in 2002 whereby it retained the Caring Coaches livery. © Peter Steel 2012.
Former Biss of Bishops Stortford, 1982 Leyland Tiger, with Plaxton Supreme VI bodywork. Carrying the livery of Chesterfield Transport fleet number 3. Registered ANK 320X from new, but also carried the reg RHE 969X while with Caring Coaches.
Seen at the Wythall BUSFEST at The British Motor Museum, Gaydon 2nd July 2022
