Pam Grier: Growing awareness through education, activism
Born in Winston-Salem, Grier relocated to Los Angeles in 1969. During her tenure at American International Pictures, she emerged as a prominent figure in early 1970s Blaxploitation cinema, portraying fearless and empowered women, starting with her role in Jack Hill’s “Coffy” (1973). Advertised as the "baddest one-chick hit-squad that ever hit town!" in the film trailer, “Coffy” became a commercial success, with Grier becoming the first African American female to lead an action film, in contrast to the male protagonists featured in previous Blaxploitation movies.

In addition to reprinting classic men's adventure magazine stories about hit men, the MEN'S ADVENTURE QUARTERLY #8 includes this great article by MAQ co-editor and designer Bill Cunningham about the connections between the 1972 Blaxploitation movie HIT MAN and Michael Caine's 1971 film GET CARTER. Copies of MAQ #8 and all previous issues of the MEN'S ADVENTURE QUARTERLY are available via Amazon worldwide and MensPulpMags[dot]com.
