The Blue-and-yellow Tanager belongs to the family Thraupidae and is resident in much of South America, being found from Ecuador south to Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia and northern Chile. The Blue-and-yellow Tanager formerly bore the scientific name Thraupis bonariensis.
