Tachinid Fly (Tachinidae) on Mugwort

This is "just a fly" on leaf of native Mugwort (Artemisia douglasiana, Asteraceae) in the woods today. I guess it's a Tachinid Fly in the family Tachinidae because of all the bristles and general gnarliness. HFDF! (San Marcos Pass, 2 May 2025)

"Just a fly" on an oak leaf

This is a "just a fly" (Diptera) on a leaf of native Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia, Fagaceae) in the woods today. My first guess based on its color and the way it holds its wings would be a Root-Maggot Fly in the family Anthomyiidae. HFDF! (San Marcos Pass, 4 April 2025)

Attractive fly on a leaflet of Wild Sweetpea

I found an attractive fly (Diptera) on a leaflet of native Wild Sweetpea (Lathyrus vestitus, Fabaceae) in the woods today. I don't know what kind of fly it is, but it has interesting colors. HFDF! (San Marcos Pass, 21 March 2025)

"Just a fly" on a oak leaf

This is a "just a fly" on a leaf of native Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia, Fagaceae) in the woods today. It might be another Tachinid Fly in the family Tachinidae because of all the bristles, but it seems to lack a subscutellum -- compare my previous photo. HFDF! (San Marcos Pass, 7 March 2025)

"Just a fly" on a leaf -- a Tachinid Fly?

This is a "just a fly" on a leaflet of native Wild Sweetpea (Lathyrus vestitus, Fabaceae) in the woods a couple of days ago. It might be another Tachinid Fly in the family Tachinidae because of all the bristles, and it also has a subscutellum which BugGuide says is characteristic for the family, see this photo. HBBBT! "Just a fly" on a leaf of Mugwort -- a Flesh Fly?

This is a "just a fly" (Diptera) on a old leaf of native Mugwort (Artemisia douglasiana, Asteraceae) shrub in the woods last week. I believe this is another Flesh Fly (Sarcophagidae). HFDF! (San Marcos Pass, 24 January 2025)

"Just a fly" on Bush Monkeyflower -- Tachinid Fly?

This is a "just a fly" (Diptera) on a old seed capsule of native Southern Bush Monkeyflower (Diplacus longiflorus, Phrymaceae) shrub in the woods today. Maybe it's another Tachinid Fly (Tachinidae) because of all the bristles? HFDF! (San Marcos Pass, 24 January 2025)

Another fly on Bush Monkeyflower -- Tachinid Fly?

This is a "just a fly" (Diptera) on a leaf of native Southern Bush Monkeyflower (Diplacus longiflorus, Phrymaceae) shrub in the woods yesterday.
