The pied kingfisher (Ceryle rudis) is a water kingfisher and is found widely distributed across Africa and Asia. Its black and white plumage, crest and the habit of hovering over clear lakes and rivers before diving for fish makes it distinctive.

Malelane Bridge (on the southern border of the Kruger National Park, South Africa) was the place to be, with a decent breeze and the locals just hanging about on the air, searching the water beneath from quite some height. Great fun to watch, and great fun to photograph.
