The Mill Creek roughly divides Cincinnati in half, east and west sides. The Mill Creek Valley is relatively flat and a large portion of the industry that was once functioning in the city was located there.
When the Ohio River flooded excess water would back up into the Mill Creek and caused flooding for several miles into the Valley. This picture shows a portion of the Northside business district which is approximately 3 miles north of the Ohio River.
This photo was taken on March 8, 1945 and it is noted that the flood crested at 69 feet on the Ohio. Flood stage in Cincinnati is now 52 feet. Based on how high the water is on the buildings Knowlton's Corner is under about 10 feet of wet stuff.
After many disastrous floods the Army Corps of Engineers had a barrier dam constructed where the Mill Creek flows into the Ohio River. The dam prevents flooding in the Mill Creek Valley.
None of the businesses that are shown in this photo exist today. However, if you would like to drink a Hudepohl or two, have a look at their website: www.hudepohlbeer.com/
