Someone planted these two metal pieces of art. Deer are safe in the park as no hunting is allowed. The park (29 acres ?) is two blocks south of the intersection of Fuerte Drive and Damon Lane, Mt. Helix area of San Diego. It even has a year 'round creek running through the southern/central part of the park.

These deer are in the northwestern part of the park (south side of the trail. There are three east/west trails in the northern part. This is the middle of those three trails.

The park is the site of an old, old farm/ranch long gone when we moved into the area in 1968. Someone planted this Iris decades ago. And I've gone out of my way to say "hello" when walking in the park. Over the years which are mostly rain shy this little plant has preserved and this year of very abundant rain it has rallied nicely. In past years I've been tempted to bring it some water on my hikes but never got around to it.

Bamboo shoots in creek bottom Damon Lane County Park 3-9-13

This little creek flows all year which is unusual in our rather dry county. It comes to the surface just a little way upstream from this spot. One might suspect that it is the result of the few hundred homes up the canyon that are all on septic systems. The water is clear and odorless probably a natural result of filtering through the earth. Our dogs have for years drank from it and nothing bad happened.

This is the only bridge in the park. It saves one from leaping across. Normally this is dry.

This is at the southwest corner of the park at its highest point. It's out of sight but a safety nuisance. It invites injuries.

The westside trail is at the left side of the image. It can be a loop trail if one goes through a few blocks of the homes on the south side of the park. The park is undeveloped and lonely except for the occasional hiker, jogger, bike rider and dog walker. It is surrounded by homes on all sides.

It looks like the county came in and cleared a lot of brush. Before you could not see the creek or shape of the ravine. I think prison labor is inexpensive and you've got to keep them busy.

This little creek runs all year. It's not spring water but by the time it gets here the earth has filtered it to clear and odorless. The few hundred homes above it are all on septic systems including mine. Our system has run flawlessly for forty-four years and counting.
