Hastings diesel units 1013 and 1001 (made up into six and three car units) climb Gomshall bank on the homeward leg of the 'East West DEMU' tour on 6 April 2025.
Hastings diesels units 1001 and 1013 (a nine car mixture of vehicles formed into two units) descend Gomshall bank on the outward leg of the 'East West DEMU' tour on 6 April 2025.
The 'East West DEMU' tour of 6 April 2025 approaches the summit of Gomshall bank.
The Hastings DEMU has seen re-certification and restoration of further vehicles recently, which enabled it to run in passenger service for the first time as a 9-car formation, effectively formed of two units for its East West DEMU railtour to Milton Keynes via the recently reactivated 'East West' rail link from Bicester to Bletchley.
Running as 3 car unit 1001, the formation is led through the Surrey Hills towards Gomshall by motor coach 60000 'Hastings' which has now been restored to run in BR blue/grey livery along with trailer coach 60501. For the current season the final vehicle of the 'new' unit, motor coach 60116 'Mountfield' is running in green with a full yellow end, awaiting its turn in the paintshop.
The 6 car green unit is currently numbered up as 1013 and continues to include the ex-4CEP trailer and ex-4BIG buffet coach alongside the Hastings gauge vehicles.
