A setting looking to the northwest while taking in views as I wandered around the Boca Chita Key Campground on the namesake key. This is located in Biscayne National Park. Which drew me into this setting was the palm trees swaying with the breeze and wind blowing. I loved the look they had, as well as the backdrop of blue skies that tended to make them stand out even more. The rest of the image post-processing was working with DxO PhotoLab 8 for adjustments and then doing some edits with Photoshop to remove some of the people present.

While standing beneath swaying palm trees and others at the entrance of Biscayne National Park, I sought a composition that would capture the harmony between the palm trees and the mangroves on the other side. The view was looking up and to the northeast, offering a panoramic perspective of the sky.

I wanted a view to the skies above as well as metering to not blow any highlights while still being able to pull out the more shout out areas later. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation in DxO PhotoLab 8. I then exported a TIFF image to Nik Color Efex Pro 7 where I added a Polarization, Foliage, and Pro Contrast filter for that last effect on the image captured.

A setting looking to the east-southeast while taking in views along Skyline Drive at a location Google Maps depicts as Low Gap. This is in Shenandoah National Park. My thought on composing this image was to use the road as a leading line with the trees on both sides of the road to help channel the look ahead. I also tried to keep a balance with having more of the road with that of the trees overhead and wanting to angle my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera upward to capture more of the canopy above.

A setting looking to the southwest while taking in views of aspen trees along the Baker Creek Loop in Great Basin National Park. My thought on composing this image was to look slightly upward with my Nikon SLR camera and have the forest fill the lower portion of the image from edge to edge. The blue skies and clouds above would help to, in my mind, better highlight the forest and leaves caught in sunlight.

While at a roadside pullout along the Blue Ridge Parkway with a view looking up and to the east-southeast. This location is at the Virginia and North Carolina State Line. What I wanted to capture with this look was the trees caught in the light of the morning sun and the backdrop of blue skies and clouds. Both the light and the backdrop seemed to bring out vibrant colors in the trees.

While wandering around the Lower Otter Creek Overlook with a view looking to the northwest. This is at a roadside pullout along the Blue Ridge Parkway. What drew me into the setting was the lone tree in the center of this parking area that had blue skies as a backdrop. I also liked the way the contrail was cutting across the sky, adding to the setting for this image captured.

While at a roadside pullout along the Skyline Drive with a view looking down the road to the east-southeast. This is in Shenandoah National Park around a location Google Maps lists as Low Gap. What I wanted to capture with the setting was the tall trees lining the road at this point in the national park. I decided on a portrait orientation in order to capture more of the full height present with the trees while still including the road ahead as a leading line into the image. The rest was metering the image properly to not blow any of the highlights in the leaves reflecting the noon-time sunlight while still being able to pull the more shadowed areas later and post-production.

Given what I perceived as a large dynamic range, I metered this setting so as to not blow any of the highlights in the more distant redwoods while still being able to pull out the more shadowed areas later in post production.

While walking along the Foothill Trail with a view looking up and to the west at nearby coast redwoods in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. Part of my idea with the image composition was including a nearby sign that had quite a few exhibits for big trees around the area!

A setting to some nearby tall evergreen trees with a view looking to the northeast. What I wanted to do with this image was pull back on the focal length and capture a wide-angle view with the trees seemingly reaching up to the skies above. I had to meter properly in order to not blow any of the highlights in the upper portions of the trees and sky's clouds, while still being able to pull the more shadowed areas near the base of the image of the trees, an image.

A setting looking up and to the northeast while taking in views of nearby coast redwoods and walking the Prairie Creek Trail in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. My thinking in composing this image was to capture a view that looked slightly upward but mainly focused ahead. That would allow me to include some of the nearby vegetation around the base of the trees while having that view that looked towards the upper portions of the trees, with some caught in sunlight. The rest was metering the image so as to not blow any of the highlights in the upper portions and tree crowns of the nearby redwoods while still being able to pull out the more shadowed areas later in post production.
