Any Excuse to Visit Biscayne National Park

While on a boat ride with Heritage Of Biscayne Cruise and leaving Boca Chita Key. The setting is looking to the east-northeast across the bay waters in Biscayne National Park. I chose to capture a more leveled-on view with the horizon offering a panoramic setting to the lighthouse and trees. I pulled back on the focal length, so I include the entirety of the lighthouse along with a lot of the blue skies and clouds, which I felt were the perfect backdrop for this setting.

Renovation equipment was on hand at the lighthouse and later used Photoshop to remove that in the image captured.

Real Shenandoah National Park!

While taking in views at the Hawksbill Summit in Shenandoah National Park. The setting from this overlook is to the northwest. In composing this image, I angled my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera slightly downward to bring the horizon higher into the image and create more of a sweeping view looking down this draw with the ridges and spurs on both sides as it led into the Shenandoah Valley beyond.

Just the Two of Us (Shenandoah National Park)

While at a roadside parking area and overlook at the Spitler Knoll Overlook in Shenandoah National Park. The setting is looking to the west at the sun was just setting. In composing this image, I wanted to align myself so that the sun and horizon was more or less in the image center. I liked that balance with the foreground and the grassy meadow leading off to more distant ridges and peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains. That in turn was contrasted with the blue skies and colors present from the setting sunlight.

My Adventures in Nature Are Never Skin Deep

A setting looking to the south while taking in views across a mountain valley with evergreen trees present in this part of the San Juan National Forest. This was at a roadside pullout along US Route 550 (San Juan Skyway Scenic and Historic Byway) in southeastern Colorado. Off in the distance are the ridges and peaks of the San Juan and Needle Mountains with Mount Garfield in the image center, more or less.

Removing Renovation Equipment Around the Boca Chita Lighthouse for an Image Captured (Biscayne National Park)

During the docking at Boca Chita Harbor within Biscayne National Park, with a view towards the northwest towards the namesake lighthouse, I captured this image by looking across the harbor waters with Biscayne Bay and blue skies with clouds as a backdrop. I felt those brighter colors in blue helped to stand out against the earth-tones with the lighthouse more and act as a color contrast.

Renovation equipment was on hand at the lighthouse and later used Photoshop to remove that in the image captured. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation in DxO PhotoLab 8. I then exported a TIFF image to Nik Color Efex Pro 7 where I added a Polarization, Foliage, and Pro Contrast filter.

Joining Me on My Adventures in Nature Along the Blue Ridge Parkway

A setting looking to the northeast to ridges and peaks of the Great Craggy Mountains (with Craggy Dome) and then more distant one of the N NC Blue Ridge Crest. This was while walking to the summit area of Craggy Pinnacle along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

My Time for a Getaway Along the Blue Ridge Parkway

A setting looking to the south while taking in views across at the Peaks of the Otter Recreation Area. This is at a stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway. What I wanted to capture with this view was the layers present from the nearby grassy meadow and shoreline, then the waters of Abbott Lake, and finally Sharp Top Mountain as a distant backdrop. I decided to keep everything more or less symmetrical across the image, as I felt it helped to create a sense of balance with the look straight ahead.

Hiking the Trails of Biscayne National Park

A setting looking to the southeast while walking along a hiking trail on taking in Boca Chita Key and taking in views of trees and other plant-life. This was while on the Heritage Of Biscayne Cruise in Biscayne National Park.

Tall Trees Lined Along the Blue Ridge Parkway

A setting looking to the southwest while taking in views along Skyline Drive at a location Google Maps depicts as PunchBowl Mountain Overlook. This is along the Blue Ridge Parkway. My thought on composing this image was to use the road as a leading line with the trees on both sides of the road to help channel the look ahead. I also tried to keep a balance with having more of the road with that of the trees overhead in wanting to angle my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera upward to capture more of the canopy above.

Outings in Biscayne National Park

I captured this image while walking and exploring a hiking trail on Boca Chita Key in Biscayne National Park. The view is looking to the north-northeast to a group of pelicans that had flown over and continued away. A few moments prior to seeing them, I had changed the subject detection on my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera to a more automatic one, so I was able to capture a set of images of these pelicans. This image that I liked because of the wings spread out, along with the backdrop of blue skies and clouds.

Sky Replacement with the Key West Lighthouse by thor_mark 

Sky Replacement with the Key West Lighthouse

While walking along Whitehead Street in Key West, Florida, with a view looking up and to the northwest to the landmark lighthouse.

It was as I began working on the image in post production that I then decided to once again try out the sky replacement setting in Photoshop with this image. An image with blue skies and clouds definitely seemed appropriate for this southern Florida setting than the overcast skies I’d experienced that afternoon. So the skies are from an image I captured in west Texas several years with my Nikon D850 SLR Camera but all else is captured with my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 4 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

I also used a tool in Photoshop to remove people on the outside railing in the upper part of the lighthouse. A little bit for not having people in an image and also for possible licensing.

Bird on a Wire (Shenandoah National Park)

A setting looking to the west while taking in views of a sunset while staying at the Skyland Lodge in Shenandoah National Park. What I wanted to capture with this image was the robin as it was perched on a nearby wire and the backdrop of colors in the skies and clouds of sunset lights. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 7 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

Taking Stock of Beautiful Places in Biscayne National Park.

A setting looking to the northwest while taking in views as I wandered around the Boca Chita Key Campground on the namesake key. This is located in Biscayne National Park. Which drew me into this setting was the palm trees swaying with the breeze and wind blowing. I loved the look they had, as well as the backdrop of blue skies that tended to make them stand out even more. The rest of the image post-processing was working with DxO PhotoLab 8 for adjustments and then doing some edits with Photoshop to remove some of the people present.

Life on the Waters of Biscayne National Park

While on a boat tour with the Biscayne National Park Institute. This setting is looking to the northeast across the waters of Biscayne Bay to Adams Key with a lone heron hanging out on top of some roots of mangrove trees. My thought in composing this image had been to zoom in as much as I could while still including some of the nearby trees to add to this setting. I liked the idea of the mangroves stretching across the image and then centering the heron amongst those mangroves.

Two Airplanes in the Skies Above Northern Virginia

While in a parking lot in the Chantilly, Virginia, area that happened to be lined up with airplanes landing at Washington Dulles Airport. The view is looking to the east-northeast to a United Airlines airplane getting ready to land. But what really drew me into this image was the second airplane far off in the distance. It was as if the planes were stacked up and coming in one after the other, maybe a minute apart.

It Isn’t Hard to Find Beautiful Places in Biscayne National Park!

While walking along a hiking trail with an opening amongst some nearby mangrove trees to the blue waters of Biscayne Bay. The setting is to the north-northwest on Boca Chita Key in Biscayne National Park. My thought in composing this image had been to take advantage of this opening in the mangrove trees and use it to frame a setting with a look beyond. I wanted to keep the horizon more or less centered in the image and create a balance with the blue skies and clouds and that of the blue waters of Biscayne Bay.

I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 8 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

Birds of a Feather Flock in Biscayne National Park

A setting looking to the north-northwest across the waters of Biscayne Bay to a nearby area that some birds (seagulls, double-crested cormorant, and others) were hanging out one morning. This is in Biscayne National Park while on the Heritage Of Biscayne Cruise done by the national park institute. My thought on composing this image was to zoom in with the focal length and have this dried up land area (abandoned part of the walkway destroyed years prior from a hurricane) fill the area from edge to edge with the birds. I captured several images there, but this one with anhinga and its wings spread out caught my attention of the entire set.

I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 8 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

Mountain Paradise Along the Blue Ridge Parkway

While at a roadside pullout along the Blue Ridge Parkway with a view looking to the northwest to ridges and peaks of the Northern Blue Ridge. This is at Bald Mountain Overlook with Knob of Rocks, Bare Mountain, and Cellar Mountain being the more prominent points of interest present (according to the PeakVisor app on my iPhone).
