The Great Egret (Ardea alba) lives in the world's warmer regions. Its range includes North and South America, Central America, the Caribbean, Southern Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. At Sweetwater Strand, fish provide a plentiful food source for egrets and herons.

Loop Road in Big Cypress National Preserve passes through 20 miles (32 km) of wilderness, including Cypress Swamps, which host many plant and animal wildlife species. The numerous non-parasitic air plants (bromeliads) shown in this photo provide a breeding habitat for frogs and insects, which, in turn, become food sources for snakes, lizards, and birds.

The Florida Green Water Snake (Nerodia floridana) is a nonvenomous snake found in the US States of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. When fully grown, it is 76–140 cm (30–55 in) long. This snake is usually found in calm waters such as swamps and marshes. In southern Florida, it is active year-round.
