Arthropods constitute the most numerous and diverse phylum in the animal kingdom. Here we see a very small one, less than 1 mm, on a slide of colon carcinoma. I can't identify it, but I'd like to take this opportunity to mention that Dicopomorpha echmepterygis is the smallest known insect. The males are blind, wingless, and their body length can be only 140 μm, smaller than certain species of Paramecium, amoebas, and smaller than certain bacteria, such as Thiomargarita magnifica, all of which are unicellular organisms.
It's a laboratory artifact.
