"Testing the Waters" by Patti Deters. A bright red Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) appears to be testing the water prior to his bath. This colorful songbird is always fun to see in the wild, and it was exciting to have photographed him mid-flight with his wings spread wide AND with an almost perfect reflection in the shallow puddle. He did eventually bathe for a bit (and some of those photos are at the links below.) Thank you for viewing this picture. This photo features a beautiful butterfly in mid-flight. The butterfly has striking yellow and brown patterned wings, likely belonging to the Malachite Butterfly (Siproeta stelenes) or a similar species. The wings' intricate patterns and earthy tones stand out against the softly blurred, green-toned background.
The soft focus in the background creates a dreamy and ethereal atmosphere, drawing attention to the delicate details of the butterfly. The motion blur on the wings adds a sense of movement, highlighting the butterfly's graceful flight.
The natural light illuminates the wings, bringing out the warm colors and the translucent quality of the wing edges. The overall effect is a harmonious blend of nature's beauty and the fleeting moment of a butterfly in motion.
This photograph captures a bird in flight against a clear blue sky. The bird, with dark feathers and a red head, is likely a vulture. Its wings are spread wide as it glides smoothly, showcasing its impressive wingspan and the detailed structure of its feathers. The contrast between the dark bird and the bright sky makes the image visually striking, highlighting the beauty and grace of the bird in mid-flight.
This photo captures a hummingbird in mid-flight as it delicately feeds on the nectar of a vibrant purple flower. The hummingbird's green iridescent feathers contrast beautifully with the soft, blurred background of greens and grays, creating a serene and focused composition. The motion blur of the bird's wings adds a dynamic sense of movement, highlighting the speed and grace of the hummingbird. The sharpness of the flower's stem and petals draws attention to the interaction between the bird and the flower, making this a striking and intimate nature scene.
Capturing an insect in flight is always a matter of luck. You have to do everything freehand, otherwise you can't react quickly enough. The older I get, the more difficult it becomes. I took this photo already about 2 years ago in 2022. But now I was able to edit it using new AI-assisted noise removal tools and therefore obtain a larger magnification with the same image quality.
