They breed in bogs and marshes in the boreal forest region of Canada and Alaska.
During the non-breeding season from August to April, they migrate to the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the United States and south to South America. They are rare vagrants in western Europe.

The Dunlin is a circumpolar arctic breeder. They are amazing long-distance migrators that winter along northern hemisphere coasts in Europe, Africa, Asia, and North America. As one of the world's most common shorebirds, they occur in massive flocks during migration.
