The cactus on the balcony, a quiet witness to bright days and passing shadows, has lost a fruit.
It was a gentle fall — no noise, no sorrow. Just a natural parting.
This plant is in no hurry. It asks for nothing. It holds no regret.
It simply lives, faithful to its own rhythm, where even loss becomes a beginning
"Yellow Duet - Oriole on Cactus" by Patti Deters. A striking Audubon’s oriole (Icterus graduacauda) perches on a blooming prickly pear cactus (Opuntia spp.), the bird's bold yellow feathers and black hood echoing the yellow cactus flowers. Native to southern Texas and northeastern Mexico, this shy, melodious songbird thrives in dense woodlands and thorny scrub, often staying hidden despite its eye-catching black and yellow plumage. The prickly pear cactus, known for its thick pads and spiny exterior, provides both food and a resting perch in this desert scene at Laguna Seca Ranch in southern Texas, USA. I love the visual serendipity of scenes like this where the colors match or complement each other - it's nature's happy accident and you can see similar examples at the links below.
