German actor Paul Henckels (1885-1967) appeared in over 230 films, often as a supporting actor. He played in films by directors like Fritz Lang, Jacques Feyder, and G.W. Pabst. He also worked as a stage actor, a stage director, and as a theatre manager.
Grete Reinwald (1902–1983) was a German stage and film actress. As a child, due to her sweet, appealing features, she modelled for many monochrome, hand-tinted and autochrome postcards. Her sister Hanni Reinwald and brother Otto Reinwald were also actors. Together with them, Reinwald debuted in film in 1913-14 in Ein Sommernachtstraum in unserer Zeit by Stellan Rye. From 1919 she had a rich career in German silent cinema, often portraying enamoured women or faithful wives. She starred e.g. in the Stuart Webbs film Das Rattenloch /The Rat Hole (Max Obal, Ernst Reicher, 1921), Die kleine Dagmar (Alfred Halm, 1921), Jugend (Fred Sauer, 1922), Das kalte Herz (Sauer, 1924), Goldjunge / Golden Boy (Henk Kleinman, 1925) with Henkie Klein, Die elf schillschen Offiziere (Rudolf Meinert, 1926), Ich hatte einst ein schönes Vaterland (Max Mack, 1928), and others. As a supporting actress, she also played in many sound films, for the last time in 1957. Grete Reinwald was married to the actor Fred Louis Lerch. All in all, Reinwald acted in over 90 films.

On this card: washing in Antiquity.
To introduce their first synthetic detergent to the general public, the company Henkel, in collaboration with Ufa, created the Persil sound film, which was less of a conventional advertising film and more of a real feature film that became one of the most popular German cinema films in the 1930s. At the centre of the plot is Professor Stahlschmidt (Paul Henckels), whose scientific interest is awakened when his laundress tells him about a new detergent called ‘Persil’. Meeting the Henkel chemist Dr. Breuer (Fritz Alberti), he is invited, together with his wife (Grete Reinwald), to visit the Henkel factory in Düsseldorf to find out more. Afterward, a travelling female demonstrator (Lotte Spira) learns Frau Stahlschmidt how to operate her washing with the new detergent. In the end a salesman (Ernst Stahl-Nachbaur) explains the various domestic uses of the Henkel products.
The film was immensely popular in Germany, where it was shown for seven years in a row and drawing in 30 million spectators, making it the best visited film in Germany. In addition to the long run, the free entrance to the film, and the collaboration of renowned film actors like Henckels, Reinwald, Ida Wüst and Fritz Alberti explain the success of the film. The last act of the film was shot in colour, in order to explain the effect of Persil for coloured laundry. The film launched the establishment of feature-length industrial and advertising films in Germany, using fictional narration.

The sluice in the Doorslag in Nieuwegein dates back to 1671. It has lost its function due to other locks nearby. As an histiric landmark it has been restored in recent years. To the left a part of the former Persil washing-powder factory can be seen. This complex is about to be redeveloped in the near future.

A log flume in and around the castle "Rauhe Klinge". Boats themed as bathtubs.
Badewannen-Fahrt zum Jungbrunnen
The attraction opened in the year 2000 and was built by the German company MACK Rides. The course is located both inside Rauhe Klinge Castle and outside. When it opened, the Badwannen-Fahrt zum Jungbrunnen had the highest descent in Europe in a tree trunk attraction. The track was expanded in 2002 and uses vehicles that look like bathtubs. The tour also has a dark ride section which looks like a bathhouse with bathing men and women.
