Beach Day

I do not often include people in my landscape images. However, this one is better with than without. There presence in this seascape, tends to set the tone of the photo.

I had already set up for the shot when I noticed them crossing the frame. Waiting until they walked into the stream, they helped balance the final result, and set the mood suggesting a relaxing moment.

Elegance In The Sand

When the sun continues its relentless descent, and my polarizer is directed at 90 degrees, more of the tiny details take form. The marvellous lines left in the sand from the retreating tides, leave their mark on the landscape.

From the elongated to something drawn by a spirograph, these elegant creations contribute to the story. However, in a few hours the tides will come in, erase today's stories, and start all over again.

What Tides Reveal by stevenbulman44

What Tides Reveal

Low tide often reveals many of the subjects otherwise covered from our view. This is from Roberts Creek where we have been experiencing extreme low tides. All sorts of organisms are left behind as they cling to life.

Whether barnacle covered rocks, green sea weed, or these two reddy brown organisms. These shores were also tough on the equipment. It was necessary to move fast, as everything would quickly sink into the mud. Including me.

The Light Between Us by stevenbulman44

The Light Between Us

As the sun was going down at Roberts Creek, it was time to adjust my view. Each season sees the sun set in a different position in the sky as the Earth tilts. During this season, it is possible to place it between the rocks and take advantage of where it sets.

The surf was coming in and creating a white foam. Now it was just a matter of anticipating the two subjects would cooperate and have the sun peak from behind the low slung clouds. When it did, its rays touched the rocks in front of my lens, created shadows behind other rocks, and left a long golden trail on the water. It is nice when it all works out.

Non Compliance by stevenbulman44

Non Compliance

When exposing an image, many adhere to the notion of ETTR. (Expose to the right) For the most part, it achieves the purpose when working with histograms. However, in this shot, I purposely underexposed the image in order to emphasize the light on the horizon.

The clouds on the skyline were a vivid yellow, with dark clouds above. This helped deliver a brooding atmosphere. An ETTR exposure tended to change the yellow to a brighter white, which changed the narrative.

A Painterly Stroke by stevenbulman44

A Painterly Stroke

The municipality of Sechelt is in those distant hills, and under the prominent looking clouds. It is found along the Sunshine Coast, up the highway from the Ferry found in Langdale. While the shot is taken from Roberts Creek, it looks nestled in the mountains beyond.

Much to my surprise, this exposure rendered streaks in the foreground waters. Somewhat akin to the brush strokes an artist might leave on a canvas. The whites, yellows, and browns complimented one and other, delivering a painterly feel.

A Splash of Cloud by stevenbulman44

A Splash of Cloud

When living close to water, one tends to eventually pay attention to the tides. When they are out, the treasures to be found that are otherwise below the water line, reveal themselves. The interest level tends to change, and there is an entirely different selection of items to be found, dissimilar from the day before.

Off to Roberts Creek I thought, to see what might be unlike the day before. Sure enough, it was not the tides, but rather the sky that was of greater interest. Those wicked looking clouds were creating a very moody atmosphere begging to be captured. Combining a foreground splash with them, rendered this moody result
