A trio of murals adorn the north facing wall of buildings at Main and Broadway.
The bottom one is title "Blue Vines", the top one "#OneMoreWall Campaign". One barely visible on the right is "Gaia Tree ".
#OneMoreWall Campaign:
Jill Stanton is a muralist and artist from Edmonton, Alberta. Stanton’s mural depicts a a girl standing among the titular vines, picking a berry from the foliage.
KASHINK. #OneMoreWall Campaign:
French artist, KASHINK painted this mural in less than five days with the help of the talented Oksana Gaidasheva. The mural was inspired by KASHINK’s visit to the museum of Anthropology and Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun’s exhibit titled “Unceded Territories.” KASHINK describes her work as a universal connection point for all humanity and is influenced heavily by mask art.
renowned street artist KASHINK, is one of the few female artists involved in Paris’ graffiti and street art scene. An experienced world traveler, KASHINK’s work is inspired by the social interactions and cultural experiences she has while abroad. Questioning aesthetic codes of gender and ethnicity in her pieces, she calls her work “funtivism” (fun activism).
GHIA TREE
Gaia Tree by the Growing Hope into Action (GHIA) Collective of Emily Carr students is the most recent addition to the Vancouver Mural Festival, and can be found at Main and Broadway on the side of Cafe Barney.
The mural centres on the Pacific Dogwood and includes some of the creatures that call this environment home. The title Gaia Tree references the mythological goddess who personifies Mother Earth and the five female artists who designed the mural using a co-creation methodology: Rachel Rathbun, Deborah De Brito, Marissa Chapman, Dhanha Lee, and Fiona Zhao.
