Captured in the waning light of dusk on a mid-November evening, this "morning glory" is a sure sign that we have not yet had a frost. Seen on an allotment-garden fence in the Viennese suburb of Ottakring.

Lens: SMC Pentax 85mm f:2.2 Soft coupled with a Pentax-F 1.7x aufo-focus extender, giving a focal-length of 145mm.
PENTAX K-1
This unusual soft-focus lens was designed by Pentax specifically for use in the the near-focus zone. It sports a double-helicoid focussing mechanism similar to that used in many macro lenses, allowing a minimum focussing distance of 40cm (front element to subject), giving an image ratio of ca.1:3. The instruction leaflet recommends its use for portraits, still-life and close-up photography. Furthermore, the use of an extender (1.4x would be ideal, resulting in a focal length of 120mm) and/or close-up tubes is expressly recommended.

Soft-focus image taken with an SMC Pentax-FA 85mm f:2.8 Soft lens (stopped down perhaps to f:5.6 or so) on a Pentax K-1.
The camera jpg. on which this is based was taken in a slight adaptation of the Pentax creative Custom Image mode "Flat", giving a low-contrast image with subdued colours, as I find this often suitable for soft-focus. Some further work on contrast and colours, with the addition of vignetting, in my digital darkroom - SilkyPix Developing Studio Pro 9.
