Inside the distribution centre-2

One location off my bucket list - photographing inside a huge distribution centre, a pretty mesmerising experience. Great to shoot and get a glimpse inside an operation of this scale as well as witness the nifty driving skills of some of the operators here. Harper Collins 550,000 sqft new state of the art facility at Robroyston Glasgow, was opened officially on World Book Day and can process upto 3 million books a week! Really enjoyed making a set of images here.

St Monans - Auld Kirk and the sea

A view looking across the rooftops to the site of St Monan's Auld Kirk, with the Firth of Forth sea out on the horizon. A cloudy day worked well here partly to be a typical representation of the church as one arrives, but also so as the North side of the building is not in too much contrasting shade which would often happen on sunnier days,

St Monans Auld Kirk

The stunning vaulted ceiling in St Monans Auld Kirk which sits against the sea on the Scottish Fife coastline. I've recently had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful church on behalf of Fife Historic Buildings Trust who are currently working with the local community to support plans to repurpose the building for the benefit of the local area. A slightly different view of the legendary coned resident of Queen Street, whilst documenting stone work repairs on the Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow. Fantastic to get up close to these during refurbishment work led by Glasgow Life and John Gilbert Architects.

Always a pleasure to visit this bullding, Another view here! Autumn in full swing at the mo but a misleading weather forecast resulted in me visiting on a day where virtually no sunshine made an appearance through thick blanket clouds, but was happy with this view. The building is nominated in Scotland's best building awards 2024 and would certainly be a worthy winner. I pretty much love every bit of this building and hope to visit again soon!

Outside the Burrell Collection

Just heard that Glasgow's Burrell Collection picked up an RIAS award 2024, and is to be shortlisted for the Doolan Award, for Scotland's best building. It is a fitting recipient and architectural practice John McAslan + Partners delivered for Glasgow Life a major upgrade and reconfiguration of the unique building originally designed by Barry Gasson. Preserving and expanding the breadth of this incredible collection of art and antiquities, the museum has had extensive work to the building's fabric to make it more energy efficient and robust.

There's some great photos of the new refurbishment taken by renowned architectural photographers Hufton and Crow. Hopefully one day i will get some internal photographs inside the building as it really is a beautiful light filled space set against Pollock Park and its woodland environment. I took a visit to take some photos of the building one day - not knowing King Charles was opening the building that day, ( not sure how i managed that ) and managed to get a few external shots, but was not the best day to visit to see the building! Heres a shot with a touch of colour grading from a more recent visit with my family on a day out in the foreground !

Great to see Glasgow's Provand's Lordship open and welcoming visitors again after refurbishment works to future proof the building have been completed. Preserving and enhancing the character of the building, the collection brings the building to life as seen here with some of Tom McGorans colourful paintings of Glasgow in 1930's and years gone by! A humble build, these walls tell centuries of stories, and now remain intact and reenergised, and enables visitors to experience a taster of medieval Glasgow.

An overcast early February lunchtime walk in London’s KIngs Cross with an hour between trains and a camera at hand. It would have been nice to have more time and better light, but overcast conditions can sometimes be ok.

An eye-catching repurposing of space and shelter, here in Heatherwick Studios designed Coal Drops Yard; the simplicity and intent of ambition to redefine the area, realised in this multi purpose external space, and a range of retail outlets and cafes.

... contintinuing with some recent architectural photography in Edinburgh here from a commission with Manson Architects ... always nice to work on twilight shots - its exciting knowing the image you want to make and for what is often a slow process setting up shots and waiting for the right light - a lot of the work is condensed here into that special fleeting moment where the light fades and the interior glow builds from within the building.... learnt various tricks to help control light temperature of signage and street lighting over the years which helps in pulling the image together ... as well as dog walkers of course!

The Great Tapestry of Scotland.

The wonderful colours, textures, and stories set out in one hundred and sixty woven panels documenting Scotland’s history from the ice age to the opening of parliament - great to see its home in Page / Park designed building in Galashiels - under this fantastic roof! I had my toddler in tow running riot but managed to get a shot or two! Need to revisit with more time!
