Tundra Swan (Cygnus columbianus), Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge, southwest Washington State. www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Tundra_Swan/overview www.audubon.org/field-guide/bird/tundra-swan
This is a tundra swan. They are a bit smaller than the trumpeters that we commonly see in spring at Creamers. They are a bit smaller, somthing that doesn't really help with the ID unless they are close to trumpeters but they have a yellow mark on their bill that looks like a yellow tear coming from their eye to their bill.
The trumpeters nest in ponds in areas that are forested, while the tundra's as their name implies nest in open tundra.
