The Flickr Weinzettelwandtunnel Image Generatr

The Railjet 75 “Vindobona” Prague (08:44) – Graz (15:33) is fighting gravity as it climbs the north Semmering grade. The OBB “Taurus” 1216-238 is in charge. The cars are Czech ČD (České Dráhy) Railjet Series Passenger Carriages similar to those of the ÖBB, built by Siemens.

The train has just passed the Weinzettelwand-Tunnel, composed of 3 tunnels and 2 galleries (688 m long). The galleries are not true tunnels entirely bored inside the mountain. They are semi-tunnels, carved out off the side of the mountain with openings overlooking the valley.

When the ÖBB class 1014 fleet was already withdrawn from service, a few last units were used for test runs with new vehicles ! This montage shows twice the same composition with 1014 003 and 014 in a period of time of 30 minutes rolling up and down at the famous "Weinzettelwand Tunnel" portal ... ; )
