Windy days. The private vertical axis wind turbine in Mels at 30 km/h wind speed. The wind direction doesn't matter. In my assessment, this design results in less forces due to oscillations that can lead to material fatigue than with a vertical propeller. The birds are not endangered because they perceive the rotating wings as a cylindrical obstacle. Switzerland, December 6, 2024. (0:15)
A large model.
10 to 13 years ago I took photos of vertical axis wind turbines. These prototypes then all disappeared again. Now I have discovered such a wind turbine in practical use on a private house in Mels. These turbines do not have to align with the wind direction and operate quietly. Why they aren't more popular? Switzerland, October 31, 2024. (1/2)
