Bonkers and Norio in the living room in Kitahiroshima in December of 2020. Bonkers died in July of 2020 and Norio still hasn't fully recovered from the loss - they were each other's best friends.

Friday, 10 January 2020: temperature this morning is -19C (windchill -26C). Sunrise is at 8:36 am, sunset at 4:51 pm. A dangerous Deep Freeze has arrived here and will stay for the next week, with temperatures dropping as low as -28C, windchills as bitterly cold as -35C. Nightime temperatures for next Monday and Tuesday are forecast to be -36C! Stay warm, everyone!
The weather forecast for 24 December 2019 did say that any fog would clear in the afternoon, but, trust me, it didn't. I made the huge mistake of driving east of the city in the hope of maybe finding a Snowy Owl. I only drove 100 km, then turned around and drove in dense fog back to the city, where the sun was shining. Talk about a white-knuckle experience! Visibility was down to maybe one power pole away. All I did was drive along three very short backroads, knowing that there was one particular tree and this fence line that would be there, so that I would at least go home with a handful of photos.
On 5 January 2019, a similar thing happened to me, though I ended up driving 235 km in extremely dense fog. I took an almost identical photo of the tree on that day.

Test of updated code in my camera program. This shows extruded, randomly selected kanji characters as drawing elements. Unfortunately, given how many curves and lines are in kanji, this mode is extraordinarily slow and takes about four to five minutes to generate a single image.
