These elegant black swans, which are common in Australia, became like invasive in some small parts of Europe. Having once escaped from captivity, they have adapted to the living conditions in Europe and established themselves, and from time to time they can now be observed with our common water birds in the Netherlands and, more rarely, in Germany.

The Byodo-in Temple in Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii is known for its black swans, They were a gift from Australia to the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park where the temple is located. The black swans are often seen swimming in the koi pond within the temple grounds.
