My favorite season, Spring Woodland Wildflower Season, has just started here in western Wisconsin, with newly emerging beauties like this bloodroot in Perrot State Park.
Bloodroot is absolutely my fave "spring ephemeral," and for some reason it's exceptionally happy in my particular garden soil. After moving into my place I rescued a few stunted stragglers in the midst of lawn grass and those original plants now have hundreds of descendants.
Spring is springing - slowly this year!
There aren't a ton of spring wild flowers coming up yet here in Minnesota, but quite a few bloodroots just seemed to have started to bloom along the Root River.
