A Pere David's Deer and some Bactrian Camels at Knowsley Safari Park, Merseyside
As the world finds all too often. After their ceremonial stint on parade the Qatari Royal Guard camels have returned to their enclosure and have all been secured by a tethered stake in the ground. They each have a reasonable amount of room but all have the company of at least one neighbour. Alas they become fractious and many seem to want to antagonise others. Here a pair are seen doing just that.

Worimi National Park has Camel rides on the beach for interested parties. Not my cup of tea, but they seem to be booked quite a bit.

The dunes at Worimi National Park are amazing. You can actually see the waves in the patterns in the sand off the ocean.

November 2024 I had the pleasure of once again meeting up with Lloyd Austin at the magnificent beach of Holywell Bay.
During our meet ups over the last few years, when we convene at photographic locations like these, there is only one topic of conversation on our minds yep, the finer points of alcohol and the various affects some can cause on the stability of ones legs.
Though we met here last year with another well know Flickerite Dom Houghton,
www.flickr.com/photos/126574513@N04/ on that occasion the weather was horrendous, though every cloud has a silver lining.
It meant Lloyd and I could spend even more time talking about beers and cheese while sheltering in a cave.
However, Lloyd was up for another bash at Holywell, though the conditions were far better this year, the colours were not quite what we hoped for but you have to photograph what is in front of you.
Going back to Dom, he was asked to join us once again, however he had a prior engagement in Plymouth.
This involved being the guest speaker at an event to publicise his up coming trip to Egypt, where he would describe to the audience how he would be bringing back to Cornwall 100 Camels to integrate with a ferocious flock of sheep that had broken in and requisitioned his back garden.
This turned out to be a well attended event, according to an article in The evening Herald, 3 people turned up with their packed lunches, an extremely talkative parrot and a very mischievous Tonkinese feline rascal called ‘Leo The Cat A Puss’ who had his driving lesson cancelled at short notice.
I did mention to Dom of the prank we played on someone in our village that when they went on holiday we herded a flock of sheep into their longe, obviously turned the TV on for these sheep, then photographed them and sent said images to the owner of the property on some far away sunny beach.
We did say to Dom this was a service we could provide while he was sourcing camels but he declined.
He responded ‘you would never find my property’ to which I responded, be careful what you wish for as there can’t be many people with sheep in their gardens wearing slippers and smoking pipes.
