Ajuy - West Coast of Fuerteventura

The plant life in Ajuy is adapted to its arid, coastal environment, with hardy species like succulents, cacti, and salt-tolerant shrubs thriving in the rocky terrain. Near the cliffs and along dry riverbeds, you can find Canary Island spurge and other drought-resistant plants that have evolved to survive with minimal water. Despite the harsh conditions, these plants play a crucial role in preventing soil erosion and supporting the local ecosystem.

The Raven

Ravens in Fuerteventura are a common sight, particularly in the mountainous and arid regions of the island. These birds are known for their intelligence, adaptability, and close interactions with humans, often scavenging near picnic areas or viewpoints. They play an important role in the island’s ecosystem by feeding on carrion, insects, and small animals while also being a notable part of local wildlife.

Canary Islands Chiffchaff

I deliberately only took my phone to Gran Canaria, no camera gear.

On my morning walks I still attempted a bit of bird photography, not easy!

This Canary Island Chiffchaff (endemic to the islands) is looking for insects feeding on the dates.

Taken in the Taurito area of Gran Canaria.

Kanarischer Rabe Corvus corax canariensis
