Luton, UK - 2 October 1987
Named 'Dublin Lady'
In the mid-/late-1980s Virgin Atlantic operated a small number of Viscounts on short-haul flights from London (Gatwick & Luton) to, initially, Maastricht and later Dublin. These were originally intended to be feeder services for Virgin's long-haul flights to the USA, but later became very early 'no frills' low-cost services in their own right.
G-AOYP was initially named 'Maastricht Maiden' for the Gatwick to Maastricht flights, but was renamed 'Dublin Lady' in June 87 when Virgin began operating a Luton-Dublin service. It is seen here departing on VS305 to Dublin.
