A significant boxing match was held in the USA in 1931. Max Schmeling retained his Heavyweight title by knocking out Young Stribling in a match at Cleveland Stadium on July 3, 1931. Additionally, Maxie Rosenbloom retained his Light-Heavyweight title in a fifteen-round decision against Jimmy Slattery at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn on August 5, 1931. “Ernest Hamlin Baker (1889–1975) was an American artist and illustrator from Poughkeepsie, New York. He illustrated more than 300 covers for Time magazine as well as several covers for Fortune magazine. Baker also created posters for the American Legion and in 1939 he was hired by the Works Progress Administration to paint the mural titled 'Economic Activities in the Days of the Narragansett Planters' at the Wakefield, Rhode Island post office. He drew political cartoons for Poughkeepsie's Evening Star newspaper. His work was part of the painting event in the art competition at the 1932 Summer Olympics. He graduated from Colgate University in 1914.” -- Wikipedia

[Note: Founded in 1930 by Henry Luce, Fortune magazine targeted an affluent audience with its luxurious design, in-depth articles, and striking photography. The magazine survived and thrived over the decades by adapting to changing times and maintaining its reputation as a high-quality business publication. Quite a feat for a magazine born in such challenging times.]

The Face Of Dimentia

For almost all of my life I've been VERY financially responsible. I'm still quite careful unless we're talking about buying garden plants.

Setting the stage: Last week when I was going through the checkout at the grocery store a magazine about "Decorating Basics" caught my eye. The magazine was glossy and expensive. ($17.99 CAN)

I rationalized the expense by remembering the covid months ... the missed dates out with friends, missed clothing expenditures, missed holidays, etc.

I bought the magazine.

A couple of days later I was in the checkout at the same store and I spied a glossy, expensive magazine about "Decorating Basics".

Again I felt I deserved a treat and I bought it. LOL.

Yes, I have Early Onset Dementia. So far it doesn't really bother me much. I get by with deep pockets and a sense of humour.
