One of the annual series of holiday travel brochures, in single fold format, issued by the various British railway companies between the wars. This, by the London Midland & Scottish Railway, gives details of travel to and destinations in the Isel of Man. Alongside the IOM Steam Packet Company's ferries, who are not directly mentioned here, the LMS served ports at Liverpool, Heysham, Fleetwood and Ardrossan from where ferries operated as well as the Great Western Railway whose trains via Birkenhead and Liverpool also gave access to ferries to the IOM.
This is one of an undated series that use very heavily detailed artworks that are sadly uncredited. One of the series gives information to ascribe a date of 1934 to it and I suspect the rest with this style of covers form that year's issue.
First light hits the lower slopes of North Barrule on a blustery spring morning. A mass of Marram Grass catches the breeze with a dragged slower exposure of 0.5 seconds enabling me to pick up some of that movement through the scene. This shot was captured at 30mm and utilised a 3 stop ND filter to diminish the light gathering capabilities of the camera and thus achieve the longer exposures. The view out over the northern plain of the island is fantastic from this vantage point!
