Broomrapes are parasitic, perennial herbs that lack chlorophyll. They are reliant upon the host plant for their survival. Therefore, identifying the host will be a useful guide to accurate identification.
Ivy broomrape is very localised in Britain, being found mainly in southern England and Wales, particularly in coastal districts.
This image was captured on the Isle of Portland in Dorset. Identification was kindly provided by a local naturalist.
