Returning after 2 years following COVID-19, Aeromexico was another carrier that returned to London Heathrow for the S22 season as traffic demand began to return; it was a large number of countries where its borders were reopened to travellers in late-2021 as the number of people becoming infected with COVID-19 decreased. Not surprisingly, Mexico is well-known for being a major year-round holiday destination across the world.
Of course, Aeromexico too was heavily impacted by COVID-19, having to declare Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in June 2020 as revenue and its stock price plummeted. Since 2011, Delta Air Lines have owned a 49% share in the company and in July 2021, it exercised the purchase of $185 million of the carrier's debt, leading onto the carrier exiting Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection the following year in March 2022.
For Aeromexico, the carrier only operates to one destination in the UK; unsurprisingly from London Heathrow where commenced operations back in 2012 utilising Boeing 767-200ERs before going over to Boeing 787-8s in 2014. AM7/8 operates daily year-round, making a return to schedules on 1st April 2022 after 2 years of not operating due to the global pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, Aeromexico were utilising a mixture of Boeing 787-8s and slightly larger Boeing 787-9s, although they have since become a rarity at London Heathrow once again.
Currently, Aeromexico operates 18 Boeing 787s, which includes 8 Boeing 787-8s and 10 Boeing 787-9s. Aeromexico have 4 more Boeing 787-9s on-order.
November Nine Six Five Alpha Mike is one of 8 Boeing 787-8s operated by Aeromexico, delivered new to the flag-carrier on lease from ILFC (now AerCap) on 31st October 2013 and she is powered by 2 General Electric GEnx-1B engines.
