Während der letzten Eiszeit blieben Bergformationen wie die Rote Wand unvergletschert. Derartige unvergletscherte Gipfel in großen Eisfeldern werden nach grönländischen Vorbildern als Nunataker bezeichnet. Die Rote Wand befindet sich in der Bildmitte.
