The Green River in eastern Utah flows through Desolation Canyon. The area is one of the most remote and isolated areas in the continuous United States. The Green Rivers offer the opportunity to engage in a variety of recreational activities in a pristine environment. For example, the Green River in Desolation/Grey Canyon at normal flow has over sixty rapids, some as challenging as class III/IV whitewater. To float through Desolation/Grey Canyon- there are no put-in or take-out points in the canyon- takes at least five days.
The floaters in the photograph were the only floaters seen during the five days I was on the river.
Photograph was taken in 1976.
