I was down in Devon on Holidays this Spring gone and was astounded as to how many of these lovely little summer migrants I kept bumping into on my travels. One reserve was so full of them and the sound of love in the air, that it would be impossible to guess how many pairs were in the wood but it must have been 50+ :-)

Lawrence Field - Birds 080524; Lovely wander around Lawrence Field yesterday morning - first sightings of Redstart and Cuckoo, not in the best of photographic circumstances but still great, and chance meetings with people I'd not seen for sometime. The only downside was being harangued by some old guy who claimed we'd scared the Cuckoo off when in fact it was more likely the Meadow Pipit that was flying at it - his lack of adhering to the country code was more than made up by the fluency of his cursing : )
