Discovering Zorin's secret lab. Bond (Roger Moore) and Tibbett (Patrick Macnee) break into the lab and discover the secret: Zorin plants microchips in his horses, programmed to release a steroid when prompted by a hidden radio transmitter snuck into the tip of the jockey's whip. Discovered, Bond fights off two henchmen before eluding Scarpine (Patrick Bauchau), Zorin's head of security, and sneaks into May Day's room. He asks May Day to join him in bed and she does so with Zorin's amused permission.

Bond (Roger Moore) and Tibbett (Patrick Macnee) travel to Chantilly, France where Bond poses as James St. John Smythe (pronounced "sin-jin-smythe"), a rich dilettante who recently inherited horses, with Tibbett posing as his valet.

Bond poses as James St. John Smythe (pronounced "sin-jin-smythe"), a rich dilettante who recently inherited horses and is escorted by Scarpine (Patrick Bauchau), Zorin's head of security, to the main stables for the auction preview.

Bond (Roger Moore) inspects the horses whilst Scarpine (Patrick Bauchau) whispers to Zorin (Christopher Walken) about their new guest which results in both Zorin and May Day (Grace Jones) turning their attention to Bond.

During a reception party Bond (Roger Moore) uses polarizing sunglasses provided by Q to discreetly survey Zorin's mansion. Bond sneaks into Zorin's office and takes photos of cheques. When leaving his office, he is caught by Dr. Carl Mortner (Willoughby Gray) but Bond, posing as James St. John Smythe, pretends he is lost and the Doctor gladly escorts him to the party.

Bond (Roger Moore) chases May Day (Grace Jones) through the streets of Paris as she parachutes onto a boat. Bond jumps from a bridge onto a boat travelling under and crash lands into a wedding reception as May Day is picked up by a speedboat.

Bond (Roger Moore) finds Tibbett (Patrick Macnee) washing the car and horse whips him for his attention. Bond asks him to travel into town and get M to put a trace on the cheque he secretly photographed at the reception party the previous day. Looking for a reason why he would leave alone he asks Bond what he should say if questioned. Bond replies "Just tell them you have to get the car washed."

Bond (Roger Moore) with Tibbett (Patrick Macnee) posing as his valet is escorted up some stairs to his room. Whilst flirting with his escort Bond looks back and offers words of encouragement to his overladen valet. "Come along, Tibbett. Stop wheezing."

Bond (Roger Moore) meets a French private detective named Achille Aubergine (Jean Rougerie) at the restaurant on the Eiffel Tower to discuss how the horse may have won. Aubergine informs Bond that Zorin is holding an annual horse sale later in the month. Moments later, Aubergine is assassinated by May Day (Grace Jones). Bond chases after the assassin as she knocks security out of the way and begins to ascend the stairs.
