A busy day - mostly dusting and vacuuming downstairs, very thoroughly. I also sprayed some moth killer on the some of the carpets.

In between, I did various things. I acquired a new shoulder strap for my Nikon camera, as Mike had two and only needed one. It should work well to take the weight off my neck on longer walks. We went over to Coln Stores to post some letters and to buy some vegan block for Toddlers - and met the inevitable swan on the way. I didn't take my big camera, as it was raining - seems like we've not had rain for a long time.

I also had someone collect an item I was selling on Facebook Marketplace, and had a couple of phone conversations with the estate agent for Liz's house - exchange of contracts and completion should be next Thursday. And as a bit of a rest, I did some puzzle book.

I had to be down at Liz's old house this morning at 10am, as someone was meeting me there to look at the dining table and chairs. They were a lovely couple, and we arranged for them to come back in the afternoon to collect it, with a van and a car. In the interim, I got some lunch at Sainsbury's, then walked to Liz's care home for a brief visit with her. Back at the house, the removal of the furniture went well (I'd managed to disassemble the table prior to their arrival) and they were very happy - even sent me a photo of it in situ in their home :-)

Back in Ciren, I did a bit of shopping at Tesco, then went on home to get the tea. Afterwards, Mike joined me in a walk around the village, as the forecast snow was beginning to fall - it was very enjoyable.

I was awake a bit in the night with a tickly throat and a cough. I took it easy for the morning, but had a CHEQS Magazine meeting this afternoon in Southrop, which I cycled to. I put my waterproof trousers on, but only needed them on the way back. I wore a mask at the meeting, just like Covid times, to try to stop the spread. I let the group know that I would be stopping editing the magazine at the end of 2025, so we were discussing various options for the way forward. Back at home, I enjoyed a drink of hot chocolate and some puzzle book, before doing a bit of admin and getting the tea.

Although it is Guy Fawkes Night/Bonfire Night/Fireworks Night, I haven't seen anything related to it all day - probably because most people round here enjoy the Bulldogs' Fireworks near the village green, as we did on Saturday.

I had a mix of activitiy and rest today, as I'm still not feeling quite right. I vacuumed downstairs and mopped the kitchen floor, but also did lots of puzzles in my book. I love being able to sit by the patio doors and watch the birds in between puzzles. I usually end up finishing off books which Mike does first, as he skips over any which he doesn't like - leaving plenty for me to do! I can't normally do the few which are marked 'tough puzzles' so I was delighted to be able to comlete one today.

At lunchtime, I caught about 10 minutes of the coverage of the presidential election in the USA, which was plenty enough for me. Hoping for a good outcome (by which I mean a Democrat win!) but we'll see.

I cycled into Fairford for some exercise, and to collect Mike's and our neighbours' meds. It was quite chilly and misty, but good to be out.

The Puzzler II

Springbok - The Puzzler II
500+ pieces. Complete. 1983.

Gah! What a nightmare! Progress was slow at first, very slow; and tedious.

I thought I would start with the green pieces, but there were so many little bits of green everywhere that I soon realized that strategy would not work.

So, I began with a small nucleus of pieces, and built outward from there. Once I had roughly a third of the puzzle done, the pace picked up.

Glad I finished, but I much prefer a landscape or painting.

The Puzzler

Based on the Biffy Clyro album cover designed by Storm Thorgerson titled "Puzzle." In my version, Auguste Rodin's The Thinker statue sits pondering how he came to be in this abandoned room, naked and missing a piece to his puzzle.
